The graph is from the paper "Agriculture and development: A brief review of the literature" by Dethiera and Effenbergerb (Economic Systems, June 2012 - a 2011-draft is here). I had a post about this paper before. It seems that the most important issues to discuss regarding agriculture will be: subsidies, especially in developed countries; how to increase agricultural productivity, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa; genetically modified varieties; and institutional constraints. Tyler Cowen's recent article has had a huge resonance regarding food, agriculture, and hunger.
