The World’s Biggest E-Commerce Event
Alibaba employees and journalists monitored sales activity at the company’s offices in Hangzhou.
Shortly after 9 p.m. there, Alibaba said it had reached its target of 30 billion renminbi, or about $5 billion, in sales for the day via its online payment system, Alipay.
That was two and a half times the total on Cyber Monday, the biggest e-commerce day of the year in the United States, which comes after the Thanksgiving holiday in late November.
