From the paper "Ethnic Divisions, Contract Choice, and Search Costs in the Guatemalan Land Rental Market," (August 2013) by Karen Macours
The results in this paper show that during a period of high property rights insecurity, landowners in Guatemala relied on different mechanisms to enforce their property rights. Landowners without formal title were more likely to restrict their partners for a rental contract to tenants from the same ethnic group.
