Faces of philosophy

From the NYT:
  • Progress in philosophy consists on a clearer delineation of conceptual options . . . (a focus on questions).
  •  Kant was right, big ideas without details are empty; details without big ideas are blind.
  • I became a philosopher because my parents wanted me to become a lawyer.
  • Self scrutiny of ideas.
  • Philosophy is or should be humbling, -- and is, for this, ennobling (nothing is immune for challenge).
  • Philosophy is a conversation with other philosophers and all of the rest (Rorty).
  • The deconstruction of deconstruction to put something constructive in place.
  •  Philosophy is the battle between conflicting metaphors.
